The Van Horn Falcons defeated the Roosters of Pleasant Hill, 78-75, in the consolation game of the Grain Valley Tournament. The Falcs looked sleepy in the first quarter as they fell behind by eleven. There was a witch’s brew of selfish offense, bad shots, and turnovers. Fortunately, Pleasant Hill was in a giving mood. The Falcs defense was stingy with ten steals in the first half.
The defense turned into offense in the second quarter as the Falcs scored 29 points. We flipped the first quarter deficit into a halftime lead. Jaden Monday (SOPH-Guard) shrugged off foul trouble to score twelve points in the quarter.
The second half proved indecisive as neither team played efficiently. The game went to two overtimes, with the Falcs finishing off the game with a win. We still struggle rebounding and defense, but we are dynamic on offense when we drive and pass. The Falcs improve to 9-10 on the season.
